The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on Saturday said the Mission in Egypt was making arrangements for the payment of visa fees for stranded Nigerians at the border of the country. Dabiri-Erewa, who made this call, said the nationals were not being allowed to cross the border into Egypt since their arrival on Thursday evening. Two-storey building collapses in Calabar.

Image
A two-storey building under construction collapsed on Saturday on Nta Eke Street, along the Efio-Ette axis of Ikot Ishie in Cross River State. It was learnt that medical and other relevant personnel were deployed to rescue the victims and convey them to the hospital. The state government, in a statement, alleged that a preliminary investigation indicated negligence on the part of the builder. The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Eric Anderson, in the statement, said the investigation showed that the cause of the building collapse was not unconnected to negligence and the use of sub-standard building materials. He said the action of the builder had earlier attracted the attention of the Ministry of Urban Renewal to issue them an advisory stop-work notice which they (the builder) ignored. Anderson added, “Already, a number of persons trapped in the collapsed building have been rescued and have been taken to hospital for proper treatment. “The government hereby notes an...

Finding true love hard, says Yetunde Bakare.

Image
An actress, Yetunde Bakare, has said that it is more difficult to find real love than to keep it. Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, she said, “Finding true love is harder than keeping it. It is more complicated nowadays, because a lot of people have had bad experiences and they tend to withdraw easily in order to protect their peace and sanity. “I believe one needs to love, value and discover oneself before thinking of a healthy relationship.” She also debunked the notion that fame led to automatic happiness. She said, “That is not totally true, because the rich also cry. If one is a people pleaser, one will have a lot of breakdowns keeping up with fame. “When one is famous, the expectations from the public will be on the high side. People will hardly understand that one is human too.” The ‘Modi Monso’ actress also stated that celebrities usually had mental health issues as a result of pressure from fans. She said, “Celebrities have mental health issues due to the pressures...

APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress for North-West, Mallam Salihu Lukman, on Thursday, carried out his threat to sue the party’s National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore, for alleged breach of the party’s constitution. The development came one week after Lukman issued an ultimatum to Adamu and Omisore to convene an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council to address the anomalies in the party. Lukman had warned that failure to summon the NEC meeting would make him seek a court injunction to enforce compliance in line with the provisions of APC Constitution. The face-off between the Kaduna politician and the APC national chairman had been a recurring case in the last one year. Aside from accusing Adamu of running a one-man show, the APC National Vice Chairman for North-West also accused Adamu or reducing the party’s   National Working Committee to a mere rubber st...

Assistant Director, Chika Ugwueze, made the submission when they visited the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arinze Igwe, to inform him and management of a two-day sensitisation programme on the policy. He said: “The new policy has come to stay. In two days within this institution, we are going to be talking about e-Naira as a digital equivalent of the currency that we have. By digital equivalent, we just mean the cash in your wallet, but in a computerised form. There have been a lot of issues and discussions as to exactly what is the difference between the e-Naira and the regular Naira that you know. “The only difference is that you are not holding the e-Naira in your hands. With the ubiquity of electronic form of communication in Nigeria, the development in the currency h...
