Ajayi Crowther University Sets Up Agric Company To Serve Farmers In South-West

 AJAYI Crowther University has set up a firm, known as ACU Seeds, that specializes in producing seeds for high yield harvest to farmers. The firm is being superintended over by the Faculty of Agriculture of the University. According to Nigerian Tribune, "In a meeting with staff of the faculty, where the company was inaugurated, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Adebayo, noted that he was delighted that the company was coming on board to alleviate the problem of farmers within the South west region and beyond, urging the staff to put in their best to ensure that the company gives quality service to farmers." The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muyiwa Popoola, who was also at the inauguration, expressed delight that the faculty was making waves, especially because previous attempts to mount it in the university did not see the light of the day. Rivers Governor Vows to remain in PDP.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has announced that he would not leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for whatever reason or anybody. The governor declared that he is particularly interested in preserving the sanity of the party and would stay back to fight for the enthronement of unity, inclusion, equity and peace in the PDP. The Governor made the declaration at the Rivers State PDP stakeholders meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday. He asserted that he is a man of character, unlike those who could not keep their words and walked out of the party at the Eagle Square in Abuja in 2014. JAMB establishes new guidelines for UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said it had come out with new guidelines to ensure seamless conduct of future operational processes, including the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. The board made this known in its Weekly Bulletin of the Office of the Registrar on Monday in Abuja. The board said the development was released in a communiqué issued at the end of a five-day brainstorming retreat for management staff held from Sept. 19 to Sept. 23 in Abuja. It added that the modifications included new ways to further strengthen the conduct of the UTME accreditation centres, registration of candidates, examination process, results management and general administration. “It became necessary for the board to modify its operations towards achieving far-reaching improvements on various issues emanating from the registration process and biometric challenges, among other operational procedures. “Hence, no new Computer-Based Test centre would be accredited without meeting the...

Concerns In PDP NWC over N10 billion nomination fees

Barely 48 hours to the kickoff of the 2023 election campaigns, a fresh crisis has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over how the bulk of the over N10 billion realised by the party from nomination fees paid by aspirants have been spent. The National Working Committee (NWC) has been put to task over the nomination fees, it was learnt yesterday. Some NWC members have raised concerns about the depletion of the cash from over N10billion  to N1billion. It was learnt that some forces were trying to offer each NWC member N28millon to gloss over the huge cash in order not to cause any fresh crisis in the party. Sources said the N28million offer was purportedly rejected by NWC members, who were said to have insisted on proper accountability.   The Northern Elders Forum has said it will subject presidential candidates of various political parties seeking the votes of the north to a rigorous process until they are convinced about who can fix the Country. The Federal Ministry of Education has stated that the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities has hindered the payment of bursaries to Students of Education in Universities. The permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Andrew Adejo, made this known on Monday, during the 2022 World Teachers Day press briefing held in Abuja. In 2021, a report on PUNCH stated how Buhari promised to release bursaries to students studying education in Universities and Colleges of Education. “Undergraduates of B.Ed/B.A. Ed/BSc. Ed in Public institutions are to receive stipends of N75,000.00 per semester while NCE students will get N50,000.00 as stipends per semester. “Federal Government should find the modality through which respective states’ governments could provide automatic employment for NCE graduates at Basic Education level,” Buhari had said through his minister of education, Adamu Adamu. FG asks VCs to reopen universities, resume

  The Federal Government, through the National Universities Commission (NUC), has directed Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities to reopen and resume lectures. The letter, addressed to all vice-chancellors; pro-chancellors and chairmen of governing councils of federal universities, was signed by the Director, Finance and Accounts of the NUC, Sam Onazi on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof Abubakar Rasheed. “Ensure that ASUU members immediately resume/commence lectures; Restore the daily activities and routines of the various University campuses,” the letter reads. Last week, Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige hinted that the government may direct the reopening of federal universities following the ruling of the National Industrial Court. Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences has charged the nation’s judiciary to aid the nation’s fight against corruption. At a capacity building workshop on ‘Corruption as a threat to security’ for members of the House Committee on Anti Corruption, the agency says it has so far tracked N6 billion worth of projects ‘padded’ in the 2022 Budget. The Buhari administration has made the fight against corruption one of its cardinal objectives with some remarkable achievements and setbacks. The workshop offers the legislators an opportunity to evaluate some of the successes and challenges in supporting the work of anti graft agencies to curb corruption in the last three years. Students oppose court judgement on Strike resumption

Following the recent command by the National industrial court of Nigeria, to the Academic staff union of University to fully resume academic activities. The National Association of Nigerian Students has on Wednesday, criticized the court judgement mandating the Academic Staff Union of Universities to call off its 7 month strike. In his reaction to the ruling in a statement, NANS National Public Relations Officer, Giwa Temitope, said the judgement betrays equity. According to him, instead of directing ASUU to return to classroom, the court should have ordered the Federal Government to sort the striking lecturers. The Student Union decried the judgement and acknowledged that the only remedy to this strike action is for the Federal Government to accede to the demands of ASUU. Public university lecturers under the Aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have been on strike for seven months. The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Umar Lawal of the Department of Library and Information Science of the Bayero University, Kano had sued some ministers and striking university lecturers over the industrial action. According to documents filed before the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja, the court has summoned ASUU executives, Attorney General of the Federation and Ministry of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and Minister of Education, Professor Adamu Adamu to appear within 14 days of the receipt of the service. According to the couple, the identity of their son, which has been kept hidden since birth was revealed in honour of National son’s day. Banky W through his Instagram page asserted that his baby (Adesua Etomi) had a baby and he is everything they prayed for. The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, says Nigeria is at the last stage of collapse and must be quickly rescued. “Nigeria is now, not just in a physical mess, it is at the last stage to collapse. The people in the north don’t have a secured place, they don’t have good roads, they don’t buy bread cheaper than people in the south. FG declares Intention to establish Youth bank

  “ The Youth bank is the future of decent jobs for our youth” -minister The Federal Government on  Thursday announced plans for the establishment of National Youth Bank as part of its youth empowerment program in the country with an investment of about N75 billion.
