Edo 2024: PDP, Its Governors' Forum, Relocate Headquarters To Edo, Issue Ultimatum To Police And INEC

At the grand finale of the Edo State People's Democratic Party (PDP) campaign for the September 21, 2024, election, held at Garrick Memorial College, Benin City, the PDP and its Governors Forum issued a joint statement saying, "We have decided to relocate to Benin City for Edo State election. The Police will have to arrest everybody if they will not take the side of neutrality."
The statement warned the Nigerian Police to remain neutral during the electoral process, stating that failure to do so would result in the arrest of all individuals involved. Additionally, the party and its Governors called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to utilize the Edo election as an opportunity to redeem its image, which was tarnished by controversies surrounding the 2023 elections.
The relocation of the PDP and its Governors Forum's national headquarters to Benin underscores the party's commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent process in the upcoming election. The statements issued at the campaign grand finale highlight the high stakes and tensions surrounding the Edo gubernatorial election.
The Rally had the presence of the PDP 2023 Presidential Candidate, Former Voce President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, members of the Board of Trustees led by its Chairman, Sen. Alsophus Wabara, all the members of the National Working Committee led by the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, all the PDP Governor led by its Forum Chairman, Sen. Engr. Bala Mohammed, Chairman, National Campaign Council for Edo State and team, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri hosted by the Edo State Campaign Council Chairman and Edo State Governor, H.E. Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Deputy Chairman, Edo State Campaign Council and Edo State PDP Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi.
The PDP flag was formerly handed over to the incoming Governor, Barr. Asuerinme Akintunde Ighodalo, and was supportdly received by the incoming Deputy Governor, Barr. Osarodion Ogie in the presence of their wives, Dr. Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, and Mrs. Ogie. Also present were the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, former Deputy Governor, H.E. Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, the immediate Edo Central Senatorial District's Senator, Sen. Engr. Clifford Ordia, immediate Okpebholo House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Joe Edionwele, and many others. The venue was filled to capacity having not less than 1,000 PDP supporters each from the 192 Wards in Edo State. They have all been assured maximum backing, urged to go out emmass, to vote for PDP, and protect their votes till the final result is announced.
