ECOWAS @50; Hon Billy Osawaru Celebrates Regional Unity At Commemorative Ceremony.
Lagos, Nigeria.
In a bid to foster unity, collective self-sufficiency amongst member states and promote regional development and cooperation, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was created on May 28, 1975.
This year, ECOWAS marks her golden jubilee with the theme, "Stronger Together For a Brighter Future." At 50, the theme emphasizes the region's resilience and commitment to peace, prosperity, and integration in Africa. It highlights the enduring legacy of the ECOWAS initiative.
As Chairman of, the House of Representative Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru with some members of his Committee, joined African Heads of State, the diplomatic Corps, Heads of missions, sub-international organizations, and relevant stakeholders to celebrate West African unity and ECOWAS at 50 in the Commemorative Ceremony held in Lagos, Nigeria.
The ceremony afforded the Orhionmwon Uhunmwode federal constituency representative at the National Assembly to familiarize and interface with leaders of thought, diplomatic missions, and international politics to explore ways of improving the working and oversight relationships between the National Assembly and the regional organization in line with the committee's short and long term goals.
Hon. Osawaru, in a chat with newsmen at the event, congratulated ECOWAS and all member nations on the 50th anniversary of impact, regional growth, integration, economic collaboration, and cooperation amongst West African Nations. He extended warm wishes with optimism that ECOWAS will surmount all regional/diplomatic and policy challenges while it continues to achieve its mandate.
